How important is sanctification?
“Sanctification is (1) the chief goal of our eternal election (Eph. 1:4; 1 Peter 2:1–2; 2 Thess. 2:13).
It is (2) the chief ingredient and benefit of the covenant of grace (Jer. 31:33; Heb. 8:10; cf. Ezek. 36:26–27).
It is (3) the chief fruit of the redemption of Christ (Eph. 5:25–27; John 17:19; Titus 2:14; Heb. 9:14; 10:10; 13:12; 2 Cor. 5:15).
It is (4) the chief result of calling (1 Thess. 4:17; 1 Peter 1:15–16).
It is (5) the chief efficacy of regeneration (1 Peter 2:1–2; 1:2–3, 22–23).
It is (6) the eminent endeavor of conversion and repentance (Acts 26:18).
It is (7) the primary intention of justification (Ps. 130:4; Rom. 5:21 with 6:1).
It is (8) the goal of adoption (1 Peter 1:14, 17).
It is, finally, (9) the necessary prerequisite of glorification, because God, being pure in eyes (Hab. 1:13), is neither able (Ps. 5:4–6) nor willing (Rev. 21:27; 22:14–15) to dwell with the wicked.
Thus in this one sanctification of a sinner come together the ends of all the divine actions which deal with the entirety of the most glorious work of redemption.”
