Nourzad Alimoradi, a Kurdish refugee from Sarpol Zahab, Kermanshah province, attempted to commit suicide at Istanbul airport after being deported by Norway.
According to the report received by the human rights organization Hengav, on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, Noorzad Alimoradi, a 33-year-old Kurdish refugee, attempted suicide at the airport in Istanbul, Turkey, in the middle of his extradition to Iran.
According to an informed source, Nourzad Alimoradi, after 8 years of waiting for his asylum request to be accepted in Norway's "Lina" camp, was transferred to Turkey on a flight wednesday, (19. June ) and his extradition to Iran was temporarily stopped by his suicide attempt. He has been taken back to Norway and he's held in detention center.
Nourzad Alimoradi's health condition is uncertain after his suicide attempt and his fate is unknown. He is a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, and if he is deported, he will be subject to heavy sentences.
While expressing deep concern about Nourzad Alimoradi's deportation to Iran and the possibility of torture and any inhumane punishments by the Islamic Republic, Hahngao Human Rights Organization calls for the immediate attention of international human rights organizations and institutions, especially refugee protection institutions.
